Tilly Bailey and Irvine (TBI) Law is one of the region’s largest and oldest firms, having served clients for almost 200 years from offices across Teesside and County Durham.
Last spring, the company moved into Sunderland after joining Scanlans, now known as TBI Scanlans. A year later, staff numbers at the site have more than doubled, rising from nine to 20.
The new branch, in John Street, has also boosted demand, with new matters across the firm increasing by 16 per cent year-on-year.
“The Sunderland office has rapidly become a strong asset for the firm,” said Heather Bolton, Partner and Head of the Sunderland branch. “The investment in the office and the merger has allowed us to expand the team and offer a broader range of services to clients in the area, for a community that quickly made the team very much at home.”
Founded in Hartlepool in 1842, the firm currently employs over 200 staff – with other offices in Stockton, Barnard Castle and Wynyard.
And of those staff, nine have received promotions.
Those include three solicitors – Laura Nomaz, Jessica Inman, and Georgia Wilkinson – promoted shortly after returning from maternity leave to senior associate roles.
Joining them in that position are Rhiannon Melrose and Tyler Plunkett, while Bethany Atkinson, Mollie Hall, Olivia Linton and Sophie Wilding have been promoted to associate-level roles.
Several of those promoted have progressed through the firm over several years, with some starting as secretaries and Heather Bolton added: “These promotions reflect the dedication and hard work shown by our colleagues across the firm. We are committed to supporting career development, promoting staff each year, and consistently recognising talent from within as we continue to grow.”
