HISTORIAN John Heckels is the guest speaker at next week’s meeting of the Hartlepool Headland Local History Group.
A spokesperson said: “John’s talk – ‘A Tour Round the Lonsdales’” – will explore the remarkable works of renowned sculptor Ray Lonsdale, whose art installations have become iconic landmarks across England, Scotland and Ireland. Ray has made 36 installations so far, each bearing their own poignant poetry.”
They added: “Hartlepool’s Ray Lonsdale installation is Pete the Boer War soldier in Ward Jackson Park, which is widely admired. Each installation is different and personal. Seaham’s Tommy, the First World War soldier, attracts thousands of visitors each year.”
To hear about all the installations come along to the History Group Meeting at 6.45pm on Monday, 15 June at the Headland’s Regent Street Baptist Church.
