EG on the Move Ltd applied to Hartlepool Development Corporation (HDC) to build the new roadside services hub – which includes EV charging facilities – on land next to the exit of Queens Meadow Business Park in Hartlepool.
A representative on behalf of EG on the Move Ltd told the HDC planning board that work could start on the development later this year and it could open to the public in early 2027.
The plans were approved by a majority of board members after a debate in which they considered the level of economic impact on Hartlepool and effect on a nearby business.
HDC planning board chair Pamela Hargreaves, who voted in favour of the plans, acknowledged the concerns of a nearby business but also noted modifications to try and address issues.
Hellens Group, which owns Queens Meadow Business Park, has secured separate planning permission for a major employment development at the site, including full planning permission for 14 employment buildings.
The business park is being put forward as part of a national AI Growth Zone bid submitted to the government.
