Mr Mike Butterwick was shown around the RNLI boathouse at Ferry Road, where he also met many of the volunteer crewmembers who are on call 24-7, playing their part in saving lives at sea.
Hartlepool RNLI coxswain Matt Adams said: “It was a pleasure to meet Mr Butterwick, who showed a great deal of interest in our boats and the roles of the crew and their training. Following a trip out to sea aboard our all-weather lifeboat, I’m sure he would consider joining us as a volunteer if he lived in Hartlepool.”After his brief trip out to sea on the all-weather lifeboat “John Sharp”, Mr Butterwick said: “Volunteering is what makes our communities stronger and to hear the crewmembers’ stories and the reasons they joined the charity was very inspiring. Their dedication, professionalism and bravery have left me in awe.”
Hartlepool RNLI chairman Malcolm Cook added: “I’m sure Mr Butterwick enjoyed his visit and we hope to see him again in the future”
