The thousands who turned out to watch Sunday’s annual parade, under bright, sunny skies, also enjoyed watching Luke Wolfe power his way home in the Nutty Slack Derby, closely followed by Kieran Sanderson, in second, with George Williams taking third place.
This year’s Best Garden competition was won by Jean and Trevor Rennie, with Andrea Atkinson’s impressive Heroes and Villains scooping the Best Dressed House and the Cosmopolitan pub winning Best Dressed Business.
With all four judges initially voting for different pork pies, it was eventually decided that The Farm Shop, on Murray Street, was the winner!
A spokesman for the Carnival Committee said: “Big thank you to everyone who attended this year’s Carnival and who took part in the parade. We do get lots of negativity regarding this event and wish comments and statements put on social media were founded before commenting. We strive to keep this historic event a success and apply all our time and effort to make sure it does continue.”
They added: “Anyone wishing to join the committee, please contact us and help us going forward if you feel you can contribute. We start next year from Monday. Next year Carnival Saturday will be Saturday, 7th August!”
