This year’s run on Sunday, 13 September is less than two weeks away – the world’s biggest half marathon once again brings together tens of thousands of runners for an unforgettable 13.1 mile journey from Newcastle to South Shields.
The atmosphere is electric from the start line in the city centre to the iconic Tyne Bridge crossing and the unforgettable finish by the sea. The Great North Run is famous for its roaring crowd support, incredible atmosphere and extraordinary fundraising spirit.
We once again are incredibly lucky to have 10 runners taking part for us this year. Whether they are ticking off a bucket-list challenge, returning for another unforgettable year or taking on their very first half marathon – this is an event that delivers something truly special – as are the people who run it. We wanted to introduce you to the runners who we will be profiling over the next couple of weeks.
This year we have Alfie who – as our youngest participant, at just 17 – is taking part for the first time and, for him, it’s fulfilling a dream while raising money for DS43. Alfie has been running with his family from a very young age, so running is clearly something he loves. Enjoy the experience Alfie – I’ve no doubt your family will be cheering you on, as will we!
Matthew is a seasoned GNR runner, taking part in his 10th Great North Run this year and always supporting charities. It will be the third time Matthew has participated for DS43. Although Matthew no longer lives in Hartlepool, he continues to have the town in his heart.
Rachel and Taylor – a mother and son training and running together – wanted something challenging to create a special memory while raising money for charity. Thanks for choosing our charity! Have the best day together and make very special memories!
Ben, who is taking part in his third Great North Run, works with one of our Trustees and has seen, at first- hand, the time, effort and commitment that goes into what we do which helped him make the decision to run for us this year. Thank you Ben!
To all of the runners taking part this year – stay safe, keep hydrated, enjoy the atmosphere and thank you for taking on the challenge. Our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the runners and for the generous donations, large or small.
