The church and charity, based in Park Road, put a call out amongst its members for toiletries, socks and painkillers to be sent to hospitals across the country as war continues to rage.
Janice Webb, of Hartlepool Salvation Army’s leadership team, said: “When the call came that Ukrainian hospitals were urgently in need of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks and painkillers, Hartlepool Salvation Army was quick to respond. We know that these donations will be well received by our friends in Ukraine and hope it will remind those suffering that we are thinking and praying for them. Our members responded most generously. Everyone took part.”
The donations will now be sent to the Ukrainian Project at Sunderland Monkwearmouth Salvation Army for forwarding on to hospitals in Ukraine.
Hartlepool Salvation Army’s next fundraising effort will be to provide donations to Hartlepool Foodbank as part of its Harvest Festival.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Salvation Army’s Harvest Festival event on Sunday, 27 September at 10.30am at its Park Road church. There is no obligation to donate but if anyone would like to do so, it is particularly in need of tins and fruit juice.
Hartlepool Salvation Army also hosts a parent and toddler group during term time between 9.30am and 11am on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays – and a coffee morning, with stalls, on the first Saturday of the month. Sunday worship is held each week at 10.30am.
