Dwayne Douglas, one of the cyclists and organisers of the event, said: “It was a lot of hard work with a lot of steep hills along the route but we kept going and it was great to finish the ride with a fantastic reception back at the Steelworks Club after a quick stop at Hartlepool RNLI lifeboat station where we met some of the volunteer crew and had a look at their boats.”
He added: “We chose the local RNLI charity for the good job they do which is even more relevant with recent events and with amazing support from our sponsors and supporters we were also able to make donations to local representatives of the Motor Neurone Disease Society and Community Link.”
Hartlepool RNLI chairman Malcolm Cook said: “On behalf of all the officials and crewmembers at the Ferry Road lifeboat station I would like to thank Dwayne and everyone who helped make the event such a great success. Yet again Hartlepool RNLI have had a very busy year with our volunteer crewmembers being called out to more than 60 incidents this year so far.”
He added: “It’s donations such as this that help train our volunteers and provide them with the best kit and boats to help us play our part in saving lives at sea 24-7, 365 days a year.
