The Tees Valley Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) has been created to drive nature recovery and deliver broader environmental, social and economic benefits at a local level.
A public consultation is now underway to gather views on the draft document and maps.
The LNRS will be used in conjunction with the region’s upcoming Spatial Development Strategy (SDS) – and the wider Local Growth Plan – to help shape sustainable development and planning across the Tees Valley in the coming decade and beyond.
The Combined Authority has worked closely with the area’s five local authorities, Natural England and the North York Moors National Park to develop the strategy.
It sets out what is most important for nature’s recovery, provides maps showing the most valuable existing natural areas and maps proposals to show where natural areas could be improved or created that will have a lasting impact.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Growth and development matter – but they must go hand in hand with protecting the natural assets that make Teesside special. This strategy is about backing sensible progress while making sure our wildlife, habitats and green spaces are stronger for generations to come.”
Anyone wanting to have their say on the Tees Valley LNRS, view the draft documents and maps, and complete the survey questions, should please head here.
The consultation period closes on Monday, 12 October.
