Perhaps the appearance of the 1990-91 promotion squad shows what can be achieved at Victoria Park.
Joe Allon, Paul Baker, Ian Bennyworth, Andy Davies, Steve Fletcher, Brian Honour, Keith Hobbs, Paul Olsson, John Shotton, Mick Smith, John Tinkler and Steve Tupling were together again on the Vic at the National League contest with Tamworth on Saturday.
So too Nicky Southall, who many old timers may remember from the 1991 post-match dressing-room celebrations footage, but never actually played. His most famous moment was still to come when he won the penalty which would sink Premier League Crystal Palace in the 1993 FA Cup.
Also there the club’s long-serving doctor, David Russell.
Let’s be honest, how much could Pools do with them now after suffering their ninth defeat of the season when Tamworth won 1-0.
It was good to see Pools owner Landon Smith present them with medals to mark their success, which was the second of the club’s five promotions
