The Tees Valley Combined Authority is seeking to recruit Independent Persons for a four-year term.
Independent Persons play an important part in the authority’s governance framework – assisting it in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct among all its members.
A spokesperson said: “They will be consulted on the decision to investigate complaints – and before the authority makes a decision on an investigated complaint.
They also may be consulted on other standards matters, including Code of Conduct allegations against Elected Members.”
The spokesperson added: “By offering impartial and independent views on standards matters, they help ensure decision-making processes are fair, transparent and consistent.
As such, their contribution provides an added layer of assurance, reinforcing public confidence in how decisions are made – and in the conduct of the Authority’s Members.”
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “We are delivering major investment and opportunity across our region, and it is essential that everything we do is underpinned by strong, transparent and good governance.
“Independent Persons bring valuable external perspective and challenge, helping us maintain the highest standards as we continue to grow and improve.”
The position would suit someone with a governance and/or legal background, good judgement, integrity and an interest in governance and public life.
While experience in standards or regulatory work can be beneficial, it is not essential. What matters most is experience in good governance, independence, fairness and a willingness to provide objective, thoughtful, constructive input.
The role is not full-time and successful candidates will be called upon when required.
It comes with a £2,000 per year retainer allowance together with reimbursement of travel and subsistence expenses.
