Thomas Farrell’s book, “The Origins of Famous Brands”, reveals how companies often began in unexpected ways before growing into cultural icons.
He spent years researching the hidden histories behind household names, uncovering stories of ambition, luck and reinvention.
Thomas said: “I’ve always been fascinated by the stories behind things we take for granted. Some of the biggest brands in the world started in ways people would never expect.”
He added: “The book explores national names such as Reebok, Gordon’s Gin and Marks & Spencer – alongside North East favourites including Newcastle Brown Ale and Greggs.
It also highlights the history of Cerebos, the company behind Saxa salt and Bisto gravy granules, which operated from its site in Greatham.”
Thomas’ parents were born and raised in Hartlepool and relocated to town in 2021. He currently works at a two-AA-rosette restaurant.
The book is available on Amazon and at Waterstones branches in Yarm, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Northallerton, Durham and Sunderland, as well as independent bookshops including Drakes in Stockton and Back of Beyond in Sedgefield.
