He re-published dozens of copies of “Remembering the Queen’s Rink” with all proceeds going to a local, good cause.
Now, John is planning to add to the list of 20 odd books already published with a new book called “When the Brain Fog Lifts” after undergoing something of a transformation.
“I would not go as far as that but when somebody I respected told me ‘You will die a lonely old man’ I thought that was a signal to take stock and change,” he laughed. “In the past few years I have donated thousands to charities and good causes and helped people whenever I could.”
John added: “It felt good to help others less fortunate than myself.
So, now I have decided to tone down my moaning.”
Among books written about the town by Hartlepool Life columnist John include “West Hartlepool’s Victorian Shipbuilders”, “Freda Compton – Queen of the Pantomime” and “Hartlepool People”.
