We flew to Algorfa again, after loving our trip last year. It was a week of true belly laughter, way too much alcohol and the best company. How we managed to pack so much into a week’s stay is beyond me – no wonder I felt like I needed a holiday following my holiday!
On one night, we went to watch a Flamenco show, which was paired with bottles of wine and delicious food. A personal favourite was the Russian salad, which I hadn’t tried before but was yum, and I would love to know if anywhere here sells this! After flaring around in our matching red outfits, participating in free shots and people watching, we made it back in time to catch the second half of the England v Croatia match. It never fails to surprise me how many English people are in Spain!
Another highlight was our trip to the Algorfa Hotel to watch a Take That tribute. Props to them – they were great – admittedly didn’t look anything like the originals, but they sang really well, and of course the Hartlepool Life girls kept the atmosphere buzzing. And yes, we managed to get one of them to come back on stage to sing Harry Styles (the majority of our group are big fans).
Speaking of live acts, on Saturday, we ventured to busy Benidorm for some evening atmosphere, and managed to find the Justin Bieber tribute act! Of course, I sat front row, belted out every lyric and dance move imaginable, and he even took my phone to sing into it with us – and I got a selfie. I fear he’s not quite the Bieber I’ve dreamed of since I was a youngun’, but he will do. I think a long-weekend trip to Benidorm is next on the cards for us, so we can show the older ones in the group how it plays out there – they were amazed that you get free shots just for walking into bars!
Another highlight was visiting Fonts d’Algar, gorgeous waterfalls and plunge pools, which were greatly appreciated in the 35+ heat. Swimming/jumping into a waterfall has been on my bucket list for the longest time, so I’m very proud that I was brave enough to jump in from a height!
All in all, it was a week filled with so many memories, so much laughing, and I couldn’t have asked for a better friendship group to do life with. This is the life!
