GLC Projects was named “Specialist Contractor of the Year (turnover up to £25m)” and “Demolition and Enabling Specialist of the Year” at the awards ceremony, held at The London Hilton.
The company also received a “Highly Commended” award for “Project of the Year by a Specialist Contractor (Subcontract up to £1.5m)” for its work at Northumbrian Water’s Bran Sands site at Teesport, in a highly competitive category featuring 11 shortlisted businesses.
The CN Specialists Awards celebrate the best specialist contractors across the UK construction industry, recognising technical excellence, business growth, innovation, safety, project delivery and the contribution specialist firms make to the wider sector.
For GLC Projects, the double award win marks a significant milestone in the company’s continued growth. Founded in Hartlepool, the business has expanded from a small team into a £2.4 million specialist contractor employing 25 people – while continuing to invest in jobs, skills, modern plant, technology and its Hartlepool headquarters.
Managing Director Graeme Cochrane said: “To win two national awards in one evening is a huge moment for GLC Projects and something we are incredibly proud of. We started this business in Hartlepool with a clear aim to do things properly, deliver safely, invest in people and raise standards within demolition, decommissioning and asbestos removal. To now be recognised nationally alongside some of the best specialist contractors in the UK is a real honour.”
He continued: “Receiving Highly Commended for our work at Northumbrian Water’s Bran Sands site at Teesport is also a fantastic achievement, particularly in such a strong category. That project reflects the technical capability, planning and site delivery standards our team brings to complex and sensitive environments.”
Graeme added: “These awards belong to the whole GLC Projects team. Their hard work, professionalism and commitment are the reason we continue to grow and compete at this level. It is also a proud moment for Hartlepool and Teesside, showing that businesses from our area can compete nationally and set standards far beyond their size.”
The recognition comes after GLC Projects was named “Best Small Business” at the Hartlepool Business Awards in 2025 – further strengthening its reputation as one of the North East’s most dynamic growing businesses.
The company has delivered a range of complex projects across the region, including works within live healthcare estates, occupied residential environments, constrained town centre sites and nationally critical infrastructure settings. Its approach combines technical planning, strong safety controls, stakeholder communication, directly employed teams and real-time digital management systems.
GLC Projects continues to grow from its Hartlepool base, with a focus on demolition, decommissioning, asbestos removal, technical services, local employment, innovation and responsible project delivery.
