Every year, Hartlepool cricketers – both past and present – compete against each other in teams of two for the coveted Ian Jackson Memorial Double Wicket Trophy.
This year’s event – on Sunday, 30 August 2026 – marks the 10th anniversary of the Park Drive favourite, who sadly passed away at the age of 47.
The popular, left-arm pace bowler was a first-team regular, a county player and a junior coach.
Ian’s widow Louise said: “2026 is the 10th anniversary of Ian’s passing, so we are making the event extra special this year. As well as the double wicket competition – which always gets great support – we have local musicians Guess and Brad Frank in the evening, and we will be raising money for the hospice.”
She added: “The event is always really well supported, and I am sure it will be this year with it being the 10th anniversary on the August Bank Holiday weekend.”
Last year, Ollie Mole and Dylan Moore lifted the trophy, edging out Tom Stones and Travis Gorton in the final.
Ian’s son Max (19), who opens the bowling for the 1st team and captained the side for the first time recently, is a former winner of the competition.
Players can enter by adding their names to the entry list in the pavilion at Park Drive.
The competition gets underway at 12noon. Admission is free, the bar will be open, and spectators are very welcome.
A bumper weekend is expected at Park Drive as the following day – Monday 31 August – Hartlepool Cricket Club’s Over 40s football team will take on Hartlepool Cricket Club’s Over 40s cricket team in a 20-over charity cricket match with all proceeds again going to Alice House Hospice.
