Cameron’s Lion Brewery has been nominated for the My Local Awards Brewery of the Year 2026.
Cameron’s chiefs are now asking townsfolk to vote for them as they come up against other regional nominees, including Consett Ale Works, Donzoko Brewing Company and Maxim, among others.
Readers can cast their vote at www.mylocalawards.co.uk/award/north-east/brewery-of-the-year.
Meanwhile, Camerons has announced that it will open a new venue in its Head Of Steam pubs in Manchester city centre later this year, creating 14 new jobs in the area.
In February, Camerons put a number of its pubs up for sale following an “strategic overview” of its estate.
The company put its Head of Steam brand pubs in Newcastle and Hull on the market – along with its ‘community’ pubs, The Wheelhouse, in Washington, and The Mitre, in Bishop Auckland.
The Newcastle pub is listed for £450,000, The Mitre for £350,000 and The Wheelhouse for £275,000.
The decision follows on from Cameron’s sale of 26 pubs to FB Taverns two years ago for £8.25m.
The brewery, well known for producing Strongarm and Röad Crew, sold off the freehold tenanted venues to the London-based firm to concentrate on its brewing operations and managed pub portfolio, which includes the Head of Steam brand.
The Camerons Brewery Tap & Bottle shop is open Fridays 2pm-10pm and Saturdays Noon to 10pm.
