This year Kynren has had a complete makeover – complete with new arenas for all the different shows that are on offer this year.
The first show we attended was “The Trusty Steed”. This was in the giant arena, where the final big show would also be held.
It’s a story about a girl who has nothing left in the world but a troublesome horse and how they become companions for life, battling good over evil.
The horsemanship was exceptional, with daring acts of bravery in front of a thrilled crowd.
I don’t want to spoil the ending, so we will move onto the second show of the day, which is called “The Lost Feather”.
Entering this brand new arena is like walking into a giant bird’s nest. Picking your spot to sit is the name of the game here. If you’re not frightened of giant birds, then try to find a seat next to one of the big bird tables, so you get to see more of the action close up. The arena itself is spectacular, with waterfalls, and moving scenery, to compliment the bird show, which is exceptional, with all kinds of different birds, including vultures, giant owls, colourful parrots, and many more, which swoop down over the crowd, with some landing right next to you!
Our third show was “The Legend of the Wear”. Another amazing new arena with awesome sets, including a quayside, waterwheel, and lighthouse.
It tells the story of a witch, who terrorises the fishing village, with her water monster, the “Lambton Worm”. Of course, as all good stories go, good overcomes evil again. With well choreographed fighting scenes, and exciting acrobatics and gymnastics, this made for a great story for all of the family. Well recommended by Mrs G and I!
We enjoyed a couple of beers and a burger each, with a side of fries, which came to £29.00, so you can make your own mind up about the prices.
The final show of the day was back in the giant arena, with its spectacular lake and backdrops.
All the seating is pretty good for a view, and we had some nice comfy cushioned seats, but you may need to take a cushion if you’re in the cheaper seats.
“An Epic Tale of England” takes you through the ages with a time travelling boy named Arthur.
Some of the highlights include the Vikings invading England, with a Viking ship suddenly appearing out of the lake while both Queen Elizabeths and Queen Victoria also made an appearance, In addition, there was the famous football match in the trenches in the Great War, mining disasters in the pits, Sir Winston Churchill, and WW2, the 1966 World Cup winning team, Arthur and Knights of the Round Table. Too many to go into detail here, so you will have to go and see for yourselves.
I can’t recommend this experience enough. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and a special mention to all the volunteers and staff who were exceptional on our visit.
