Hartlepool Hawks’ Cheerleading Academy’s Wings team won the gold medal in Mini Jazz at the sport’s Allstar World Championships in Orlando, Florida.
The Hawks, based at Moreland Street, also scooped a silver medal for youth team Blush, while the Hawk’s Visionary open team missed out on the bronze medal by less than one point.
Hawks head coach Beccii Taylor said: “All six teams were amazing. We are over the moon with the gold and silver medals but every single athlete was amazing in the championships.
“I’m very proud of them all.”
The Wings team were made up of eight girls, aged between eight and 11, while the six Hawks teams comprised of 34 athletes, aged from eight to 30.
Beccii said all the team members received brilliant feedback from other countries on their routines and overall behaviour.
She added: “It’s nice to hear they stood out. The compere mentioned Hartlepool and it’s great when you go to these events they find out about our little town.”
Hawks’ Legacy and Visionary open teams also both earned respectable fifth place finishes in their finals.
