Ward Jackson Church of England Primary School is one of just five schools in the UK to be nominated in the World’s Best School prizes.
Much-loved children’s author Julia Donaldson, best known for her “Gruffalo” and “Stick Man” books, sent the school a special congratulatory video message, as the nomination was announced.
Now she has been joined by several stars of TV and radio who have sent messages of support for Ward Jackson’s bid, including Good Morning Britain hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid.
Ed said: “Massive congratulations, what an achievement!” while Susanna added: “It’s so good you’re in the Top 10 in the world’s best schools. Well I think you should go all the way!”
Similar messages, shared by the school on social media, have come from DJ Pat Sharp and even much loved children’s star Basil Brush.
Ward Jackson has been named as one of the Top 10 schools in the world in the awards’ “Overcoming Adversity” category, alongside schools in Brazil, Somalia, Turkiye, Ethiopia, Kenya and Lebanon.

The awards judges have praised the school’s commitment to removing financial barriers in an area of high deprivation, including a fully funded enrichment programme that includes trips, cultural activities, and residential stays, meaning that children get to enjoy things they might not otherwise experience.
