The application for Kingsley Primary, situated on Taybrooke Avenue, outlined how the project would deliver “a new and much-needed purpose-built facility catering specifically for pupils with special educational needs”.
Temporary classrooms are currently in use at the school to meet SEND requirements but these must be removed by July.
The new permanent single-storey structure will comprise five classrooms, each designed to hold up to 10 pupils, with five members of staff per classroom.
Three dedicated “breakout” spaces will also be included to facilitate small group activities.
Council planning officers have now confirmed the application has been granted approval – paving the way for construction to begin.
A planning statement indicated the development would deliver “substantial” benefits by addressing “an identified education need” and establishing new specialist SEND provision at the school.
