The event was held at the Centre for Independent Living (CIL) in Burbank Street.
Spokesperson Zoe Sherry said: “A wonderful day of celebration with more than 200 visitors who enjoyed the information and entertainment. It was a relaxed but bustling day with a feeling of great energy and friendship. St Teresa’s School choir – known as the Glee Club – sang with such enthusiasm that captivated the audience.”
She went on: “There was a surprise visit from a “flash mob” of very energetic dancers. This year we had in excess of 30 stalls – our most to date – who gave people access to information about mental health services and associated companies. We welcomed our guest, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Brenda McLeish, who presented the Community Champion Awards to those people nominated by their peers for their achievements and positive impact in their community.”
There was also a surprise award for Zoe herself when she received an “Outstanding Achievement” award as she stood down after 12 years of leading the planning group and the running of the event.
Zoe added: “Many thanks to our other guest,Hartlepool Mayor Sue Little, who came to support the day and became involved by becoming the bingo caller! This wonderful day could not have happened without all the unseen support – the volunteers and staff – also Hartlepool Healthwatch and Hartlepool Borough Council.”
Councillor Christine Wiley, chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Adult Services and Public Health Committee, said prior to the event: “World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the many positive ways we can support our wellbeing. Whether it’s being active, learning something new, enjoying music and creativity, or simply spending time with other people, the event showcases the many things that can help us stay mentally healthy.”
