The sponsored 5K walk – which started at Hornby Park, Seaton Carew – brought together people of all ages for a special evening of remembrance, with families, friends, children in pushchairs and plenty of four-legged companions joining the popular event.
Dressed predominantly in purple Alice House T-shirts and carrying their lanterns, participants set off to walk along Seaton Carew Promenade and back – creating a wonderful atmosphere of community spirit and togetherness.
The weather was perfect for the occasion, with a lovely early autumn evening and a full moon appearing over the North Sea as the walkers made their way along the seafront.
For many taking part, the stroll was about much more than fundraising. It provided an opportunity to remember family members and friends who had died, while supporting the hospice and the care it provides to local people.
Among those attending were the Bartle family, who came together for the popular walk in memory of Gloria and David. Emilie and Georgia were also excited to take part, remembering everyone who had passed away at Alice House Hospice.
Rachel and Sue were among those helping to collect funds for the hospice, while fundraising activities also took place inside the Hornby Park clubhouse, where visitors could purchase commemorative badges, pins and T-shirts.
The event included everything needed for an enjoyable evening, with participants receiving a handheld lantern and bottle of water as part of their entry. On returning from their walk, they were welcomed back with bacon sandwiches.
The sight of hundreds of people walking together along the promenade was a moving tribute to those being remembered and a demonstration of the community’s support for Alice House Hospice.
Following the event, Alice House Hospice posted on Facebook: “Fantastic turnout for our Starlight Memory Stroll – thanks to everyone who came along tonight to walk in memory of loved ones and in aid of Alice House Hospice”.
The successful evening combined remembrance, fundraising and friendship, with every step helping to support the important work of Alice House Hospice and keeping the memories of loved ones alive.
