When the 42-year-old was appointed head coach by Pools, he became owner Landon Smith’s third boss inside his 10 months in control at Victoria Park and the 13th permanent manager this decade.
And we are still in 2026! The word permanent, where Pools is concerned, is surely a joke.
Wild told Life that he believes he’s got the ability and know-how to take Pools “on a journey” but only if he is given time.
”How it was sold to me was that the club want me here for three years to make Hartlepool United better,” he said.
“You look at what’s happened to every other Pools manager that if it doesn’t go well overnight they pull the trigger.
“If that’s the way then I’m not your man.
“I’ve been to speak to Hartlepool on three occasions in the last five years and I wasn’t their man because of what I’ve just said there.
“If you are finally looking for someone to take you on a journey then I feel I can help.
“I’ll either succeed or fail off my own bat.”
Wild points to some of the divisions success stories, like Barnet and Chesterfield and highlights Boreham Wood’s faith in boss Luke Garrard. They look like romping to the title.
“Teams that get out of this league are the ones that pay daft money or get incrementally better,” added the ex-Halifax, Barrow, Fleetwood and Tranmere boss.
“Barnet were near the bottom when Dean Brennan took over and it took them three years.
“Chesterfield? It took Paul Cook two and a half years to get them over the line.
“Boreham Wood, just missed out and now they are flying. That’s how you get out of this league.
“My message is that you’ve got to stick with someone at some point and got to stick with some players at some point.”
He wants to build a team who will show “blood and guts” and judging by his demeanour in the technical area he has the sort of passion fans will love and relate to.
“I’m desperate to do well, desperate to do well for the footy club,” Pete told BBC Tees Sport.
“I head and kick every ball. I want my drive and passion to come across to them.
“I want them to be a reflection of me and I want us all to be a reflection of the town.”
