The aim was to give more people across the town the confidence to perform CPR and potentially save a life.
Residents were invited to attend Hartlepool United FC on Monday, 19 October to meet experts from University Hospitals Tees (UHT) Health and Social Care Academy, learn simple CPR techniques and find out what to do in the event of a cardiac arrest.
As a thank you for taking part, everyone who attended the session was also given two free match tickets for the HUFC v Hornchurch game on Saturday.
Restart a Heart Day was a national campaign designed to increase awareness of CPR.
Teresa Pounder, University Hospitals Tees’ Education and Training partner, said: “As a person who has administered CPR to a member of my close family, I can attest that you never know when you may need these skills. By working together as a community, we can help ensure more people have the confidence to act in an emergency and potentially save a life.”
The collaboration formed part of the Health and Social Care Academy’s and Hartlepool’ United’s commitment to working alongside town organisations and communities to share practical health knowledge and skills.
Keith Nobbs, manager of United for The Community, said: “A cardiac emergency can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time and at United for the Community, we ensure that no one has to face that moment alone. By joining the Restart a Heart campaign, we are equipping our neighbours, families, and friends with the simple, life-saving CPR skills needed to protect one another. When we learn together, we save lives together.”
Teresa and her colleagues will also be taking Restart a Heart training out into the community over the coming weeks.
Alongside some well-loved Hartlepool United footballers and H’Angus the Monkey, they will be attending a local football camp for parents and carers on Monday, 26 October and a disability football carers group on Tuesday, 27 October.
Additionally, the Health and Social Care Academy will also be attending the HUFC v Wealdstone game on Saturday, 14 November to give fans the chance to have a go at CPR.
