Do yourselves a favour and go see the award-winning musical Sunny Afternoon this week at the Stockton Globe Theatre.
The Globe was packed for the opening evening of this fabulous show, which tells the story of legendary 60s band The Kinks.
The musical, of course, features the great songs of Ray Davies and The Kinks, with “You Really Got Me,” “Lola,” “All Day and All of the Night” and many more.
But you don’t need to be a fan of the band to enjoy this show, which follows the ups and downs of the four working-class boys from Muswell Hill.
The story captures the mood of the Swinging 60s marvellously with Go Go dancing girls, Lambretta scooters and free love.
Danny Horn is ace as band leader Ray Davies, alongside Harry Curley as bass player Peter Quaife and Zakarie Stokes as drummer Mick Avory.
But they are all upstaged by Oliver Hoare as Ray’s manic brother Dave Davies, especially swinging from a chandelier in a pink frock!
The all-singing, all-dancing show charts the boys’ rise to fame, battling Svengali American mangers and the strain on their friendship, all the while bringing the Kinks’ sound of the 60s roaring back to life.
The show runs at Stockton Globe Theatre this week until Saturday 18 April.
