The town’s Meals on Wheels, established in 2020, received a new automatic potato peeler from Sainsbury’s under the supermarket’s ‘Good Food For All’’ funding programme.
The “super duper” peeler can handle 12 kg (27 lbs) of potatoes in under six minutes—that’s enough for around 50 hungry people in one go!
“Being able to manage such quantities so quickly massively helps our small team,” said Head Chef, Billie May. “Prep used to take ages, but now we can get our delicious creamy mash done as often as we want!”
“We now have all fingers crossed for our team of 30 amazing home-delivery volunteers as we await the results of our nomination for the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service,” added Founder, Suzi Dear. “We won’t find out the outcome until later this year, but we’re so proud of everyone!”
She added: “We always welcome new people onto the scheme and new volunteers to help the service grow. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more on 07801754721.”
