The award winning theatrical group are no strangers to accolades, having won three gongs at the NODA North Performance Awards for their Beauty and the Enchanted Beast production and previously winning “Best Musical” for their productions of Little Shop of Horrors (2023) and The Addams Family (2022).
Their adaptation of Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein” was their best production yet but their superb “Shrek The Musical” goes even one better.
With brilliant performances, dazzling sets and song and dance numbers, it is hard to believe that the HSS are a mere amateur dramatics group.
Seriously, this production wouldn’t look out of place touring the prestigious theatres of the country or in London’s West End – it’s that good!
All the, quite big, cast are fantastic, including Paul Robson as the titular ogre, Elijah James as his best pal Donkey, Elizabeth Marshall as Princess Fiona and a comic masterclass from the show-stealing Chris Toth as Lord Farquaad.
The capacity Town Hall Theatre audience absolutely lapped up every minute and gave a thoroughly deserved standing ovation at the end.
The Hartlepool Stage Society is an absolute jewel in the crown of the town and deserves your patronage. It will be fascinating to see what they do next and if they can top this spectacular production.
