Hartlepool Borough Council announced in March that the Highlight Active Wellbeing Hub would open on Wednesday, 10 June.
However, as work is underway to deal with the final finishing touches and preparations across the site, the building on the marina will now open its doors to the public on Monday, 22 June.
A HBC Active Hartlepool spokesperson said: “As eager as we are to open the doors and welcome our community into this fantastic new facility, we want to make sure that everything is fully operational, thoroughly tested and running smoothly from day one. Taking a little extra time now will help to ensure that our members and visitors enjoy the very best experience when Highlight opens.”
They added: “We are looking forward to welcoming you all through the doors on Monday, 22 June and showcasing everything that our exciting new active wellbeing hub has to offer. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay.”
Active Hartlepool said it would be offering further free testing sessions before opening, and customers should keep an eye on social media to find out more about these sessions or email [email protected] to register an interest in taking part.
Highlight is replacing the Mill House Leisure Centre, which first opened in 1972, and closed for good at the end of April.
