The day sees people from across the world engaging in the important skill of CPR. It draws attention to the “chain of survival” and the importance of bystander CPR to increase a patient’s chance of survival.
Once again, two of our trustees, David and Kelly Cairns, joined staff and students and Hartlepool College of Education on this important day.
For every minute that CPR is not given when a patient goes into cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 10 per cent. Alongside installing public access defibrillators within Hartlepool, DS43 also aims to give people the confidence to begin CPR and use a defibrillator.
This is the second year David and Kelly have joined forces with Hartlepool FE to provide sessions to staff and students completely free of charge. This year over 200 staff and students took part – with everyone agreeing they would have more confidence to begin CPR if they were to find themselves in the situation where it was needed.
Staff and students engaged in DS43’s interactive CPR game, along with practising on a range of manikins, whilst being given the opportunity to ask questions and build their confidence.
Our sessions provide a none-pressurised environment where everyone can feel comfortable and relaxed. Thank you, Hartlepool College of FE, for once again allowing us to host this rewarding session and special thanks to everyone who so enthusiastically took part.
If you have a group or organisation and would be interested in learning more about CPR and the use of a defibrillator, please get in touch – you can message via our Facebook page or email us [email protected]
You can also learn this vital skill via the British Heart Foundation RevivR online training platform, all you need is a mobile phone or tablet and a cushion to practice on.
RevivR can be found on The British Heart Foundation web page.
