Mak T. Davis began his dark fantasy novel, “The Sundering Cycle”, a decade ago and it has since grown into future novels, tabletop gaming projects with a growing online audience.
Now Mak, originally from Hartlepool, has seen his novel in the finals of the White Rose International Film Festival, in the “Book to Screen” category.
He said: “The book began as a personal passion project nearly a decade ago and has since grown.Seeing it recognised at an international film festival level has been a huge milestone, especially as an independent creator from Hartlepool.”
As part of the submission process, Mak produced a full eight-episode screen treatment adapting the setting for television, designed to be filmed primarily in the UK.
He added: “The project drew inspiration from the atmosphere and grounded fantasy storytelling of works such as Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’, ‘Conan the Barbarian’, ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Dragon Age: Origins’. Alongside the novels themselves, I have also developed a connected tabletop skirmish game called Halgrad, as well as a growing miniature range tied to the wider setting. Much of this has been developed independently alongside full-time work and family life.”
The book is currently available through Amazon, Waterstones, and a number of other major retailers all over the UK, mainland Europe, and more recently, Africa.
