The group played a rousing gig at this month’s West Fest in town and also played in a set with Hartlepool Rock School’s band.
When they were unexpectedly paid £100 by event organisers, the band selflessly decided to donate it in full to Hartlepool’s Alice House Hospice.
The band’s Samuel Barker and Rory Betts, who are both 13, visited the Hospice to hand-deliver their generous donation.
They said:, “When we found out we were being paid £100 by the organisers for the hour set, instead of splitting it between each member of the two bands we had a discussion and decided to donate our fee to the Hospice instead. It’s such a great cause, it was a no brainer really.”
They added: “It was an amazing experience to perform on stage at West Fest as part of both bands and we were very grateful for the opportunity. The crowd was fantastic, so many of them were up singing and dancing. We’re proud to be supporting Alice House Hospice again next month when HayWire performs as part of the Team Holbrook Annual Music Night on Wednesday, 19 August from 7pm at South Durham Social Club, AKA The Steelies. We hope to see you there!”
Hospice fundraiser Gil Parker was delighted to meet the lads and accept the donation. He said: “What a great example to set to other young people and a fantastic way of supporting hospice patients. Thanks go to the members of both bands, who should be commended for their kindness. Wishing them the best of luck in their musical careers.
